"In general, the typical comprehensive car insurance premium stood at £767, rising by 14% - or £95 - in a year, it said."

What on earth are these people driving? The fully comp insurance premium for me for last year was £160, and I drive a Porsche 911! Have they not seen all those meerkat adverts? (Or are they just bad drivers living in dodgy areas...?)

Seriously though, that headline doesn't compare like with like. The article explains this - up to a point. Men are paying more not because they are men but because they drive more miles, in more expensive cars, more often for work - on average - than women. It's rather like those headlines you see that try to argue that men are paid x% more than women, and then when you read the article you see that they haven't compared a man and a woman with the same experience doing the same job equally as well, but all of the employees in a firm where men are more common at the higher levels and all of the cleaners are women.
